K10 psychological distress check

The K10 is a ten-question check used right across Australian health care, including by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. It’s a simple way to get a sense of how much you’ve been carrying lately.

It asks how often you’ve felt certain ways in the past four weeks. There are no right answers. Your answers and scores are never saved — we ask for your email at the end so we can show you your result.

This is a screening questionnaire, not a diagnosis. It gives a snapshot of the past four weeks and can’t tell you why you feel the way you do. Only a registered practitioner can assess that with you.

What you can do next

It helps to bring this to a GP or psychologist — it gives them a concrete starting point. If you’d like to speak to someone, we can match you with an AHPRA-registered psychologist, often within the week.

With a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, sessions are Medicare-rebated if you’re eligible — we process the rebate straight to your bank account.

The Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K10) was developed by Professor Ronald Kessler and colleagues. Scores are grouped using the bands conventionally applied in Australia. Reproduced here for personal screening use.
