DASS-21 depression, anxiety and stress check

The DASS-21 is a twenty-one question check developed at UNSW. It gives you three separate readings — depression, anxiety and stress — rather than one overall number, which helps tell apart feelings that often get lumped together.

Read each statement and pick how much it applied to you over the past week. There are no right answers. Your answers and scores are never saved — we ask for your email at the end so we can show you your results.

Your DASS-21 result

Three separate readings, each scored against the standard DASS severity ranges.

Depression
Anxiety
Stress

This is a screening questionnaire, not a diagnosis. "Depression", "anxiety" and "stress" here are the names of the three scales — a high reading isn’t the same as having that condition. It covers one week, and can’t tell you why you feel the way you do. Only a registered practitioner can assess that with you.

What you can do next

It helps to bring these three scores to a GP or psychologist — they’re widely used and give a clear starting point. If you’d like to speak to someone, we can match you with an AHPRA-registered psychologist, often within the week.

With a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, sessions are Medicare-rebated if you’re eligible — we process the rebate straight to your bank account.

The Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS) were developed by Lovibond & Lovibond (1995) at the University of New South Wales and are in the public domain. Items are reproduced unmodified. Subscale scores are doubled so they read against the standard DASS severity ranges.
