Frequently asked questions

About these wait-time counts

The NSW Health feed is useful context, not clinical advice.

What does the number mean?

It is the number of patients assessed by triage and waiting for treatment at that reporting hospital. It is not an estimated wait in minutes.

How often is the list refreshed?

The page checks NSW Health when it opens and every 15 minutes while the tab is visible. You can also refresh the list manually.

Why is a hospital missing?

Only hospitals currently included in the NSW Health reporting feed appear here. Smaller facilities or temporarily unavailable reports may not be shown.

Does zero mean the department is empty?

No. “No patients waiting” means the feed reported zero patients assessed by triage and waiting for treatment at the checked time. Other patients may already be receiving care.

What happens if the data is unavailable?

The page will show a clear outage or stale-data message. Use the official NSW Health source and never delay urgent care because this list cannot refresh.

Should I choose a hospital by the smallest queue?

No. The number does not show clinical urgency, travel time, available specialties, or how quickly the queue may change. In an emergency, call 000 or go to the nearest appropriate emergency department.
