Is Carer's Leave Different To Sick Leave?

Carer’s leave is where an employee can take paid leave in order to care for or support a member of their immediate family, household member who is sick, injured, or had an emergency. Alternatively, sick leave is when an employee takes paid leave because they are unable to work because of personal illness or injury. All employees except casual employees are entitled to paid sick and carer’s leave.

Are online medical certificates valid?

Yes - online medical certificates are valid, and are the same as physical medical certificates. The only difference is online medical certificates are provided virtually. With Updoc, your symptoms and request for an online medical certificate is reviewed, considered and signed by an AHPRA-Registered Partner Doctor, and comply with the AMA Guidelines.

What is updoc?

Updoc is a secure, online digital healthcare platform that facilitates consultations between users and AHPRA-Registered Partner Practitioners. With Updoc, users are able to request a consult 24/7 from anywhere in Australia. Partner Practitioners consult with users, and if they deem suitable – are able to provide medical certificates, prescriptions, referral letters, medical advice, and more.

Can I get a medical certificate online using Updoc?

Yes - with Updoc you can connect with an AHPRA-Registered Partner Doctor who will assess your symptoms and determine if a medical certificate is suitable for you. A medical certificate is then delivered straight to your via SMS and email.

What are your hours of operation?

You can request a consultation 24/7 – whenever suits you. However, your Partner Practitioners are online 6am-midnight, every day to help with your healthcare needs, so you may see a slight delay in getting to you if you request outside these hours.

When will I receive an outcome from my consultation?

Partner Practitioners usually review requests within an hour. However, keep in mind that demand fluctuates. So, if a Partner Practitioner doesn’t get to you on the day, you may get a call the following day.

Will my employer accept an online medical certificate?

Any medical certificates provided by your AHPRA-Registered Partner Practitioners on the Updoc platform meet all the requirements of the Fair Work Act 2009. However, some workplaces and universities may have their own requirements - it is best to check with your company/schools regulations. Additionally, Updoc offers complimentary employer and school verification on all provided medical certificates.
